Brachioradial Pruritus: A Patient’s Acupuncture Experience
I have treated a patient with Brachioradial Pruritus using
acupuncture. In 2011, a patient came to my clinic with
severe burning, itching, and prickling sensations across
the upper arms, forearms, and shoulders. The symptoms were
especially intense at night, disrupting sleep and causing
fatigue.
Our Treatment Approach
My primary focus was on the patient’s skin-related symptoms.
I also treated the upper back and neck to address possible
neuromuscular factors, even though the patient reported no
previous neck or shoulder injuries.
Patient-reported outcome:
After four acupuncture sessions, the patient reported
an 80% improvement in symptoms and was able to sleep
comfortably through the night.
Considering Acupuncture for Brachioradial Pruritus
Brachioradial Pruritus is an uncommon condition, and I may
never encounter another case in my practice. I am sharing
this patient’s experience so that others living with the
condition can learn about acupuncture as a possible
treatment option.
This account describes one patient’s experience; results
may differ from person to person. Persistent burning or
itching should also be evaluated by a qualified healthcare
professional to identify possible underlying causes.
