Acupuncture for Sciatica
Sciatica is a common reason patients seek acupuncture. I have treated hundreds of patients with sciatica in my practice, and many have reported improvement in their symptoms.
Sciatica can cause pain and other symptoms that travel from the buttock down the leg. Treatment depends on your symptoms and the underlying cause of the pain.
Common Sciatica Presentations
1. Traditional Sciatica
This presentation may involve buttock pain that worsens with sitting, along with burning, tingling, or shooting pain down the leg.
Some patients also experience leg numbness, weakness, or difficulty walking. New or worsening weakness should be evaluated promptly by a medical professional.
2. Sciatica and Back Pain
In this presentation, sciatica symptoms occur alongside back pain. The back condition may be related to the leg symptoms, but the two do not always have the same cause.
